The First Trimester! | First OB appointments, Symptoms + High Risk?

Pregnancy

Welcome back! My first trimester experience was a whirlwind of emotions! Keep reading to learn all about my symptoms, my first appointments & why I’m high risk!๐Ÿ˜ง

Immediately after learning I was pregnant I was fatigued & morning sickness was pretty much “any time of day sickness.” I also started craving salty food early on.

At my first OB appointment we had an ultrasound. Peanut measured at 7 weeks 1 day & had a heartbeat of 159bpm! What a relief!!!

If you don’t know already, a majority of miscarriages occur in the first trimester. Risk of miscarriage once the heartbeat is detected goes drops quite a bit. By the end of the twelfth week, your chance of misscarriage drops to just 1%.

I met my OB, Dr. K (her last name is nearly impossible to pronounce correctly). She is wonderful!

She determined that I was high risk due to having chronic high blood pressure. I blame bad genetics!! HBP increases my risk of developing Preeclampsia, a potentially serious or fatal complication for mom or baby if left untreated. Because of this, I will be induced one week early. I’m happy to say that since the end of my first trimester, my blood pressure has been a-ok!๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿฝ

Around week nine, my symptoms pretty much suddenly subsided. I learned later that this is normal due to the placenta taking over most of the baby’s needs around that time.

My final first trimester appointment was my twelve week appointment where we heard Peanut’s heartbeat once again on a fetal doppler. 170bpm! I’m starting to think if the old wives tales are true, this baby may just be a princess๐Ÿ’•

Overall, I had a very easy first trimester compared to most women. I made it entirely through the first 14 weeks without getting sick. I no longer had any food aversions & my energy slowly came back!

Making it out of the first trimester has lowered my anxiety immensely!! I felt like I could finally take a breath & just enjoy my pregnancy without worries. Corey & I were so excited to be able to announce our secret  to the rest of world. It was a difficult one to keep so I apologize to anyone who noticed the anti-social me during those weeks!

We’ve started to purchase a few thing for baby. Books, basic clothing essentials, etc.

Next will finally be our GENDER REVEAL!!!

Our anatomy scan is scheduled June 9th. Corey & I will not be find out out the gender that day. Our ultrasound tech will put the results in an envelope. One lucky family friend will receive those results & order our gender reveal surprise.

We will celebrate our gender reveal with our immediate family and closest friends June 17th!!๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’•โšพ๏ธ๐ŸŽ€ So stay tuned!!
